Grama Raasi

Grama Raasi is the shared community land of Kunchaparthi village — owned, managed and protected by the people. This page brings together everything: our purpose, history, official documents, news, photos and the road to 2040.

Purpose ·

Why Grama Raasi matters

Our land is our heritage. It supports our livelihoods, our environment and the generations to come. Once we give up control, we may never get it back.

🌱

Our heritage & future

The land is the foundation of the village — protecting it protects our future.

💪

Livelihoods & income

Used wisely, the land creates income, jobs, education and local opportunity — instead of being lost forever.

🛡️

Community control

We own it, we manage it, we decide, and we benefit. Good decisions today ensure a better tomorrow.

Our Land. Our Control. Our Future. — community infographic
The core message

Our land. Our control. Our future.

The community land does not belong to anyone else to take. We may seek government support, but we do not give up our land or our control. We decide how it is used — for community benefit, not someone else's priority.

History ·

The story of our resolve

How the Kunchaparthi community came together to protect Grama Raasi land and plan a shared future.

1 The land

Generations of community land

Grama Raasi has long been the shared land of Kunchaparthi — used for grazing, gathering and the common good of every family in the village.

2 The threat

Risk of encroachment & loss

When community land is encroached or handed away, the village loses its land, its income and its future. Even a few acres lost weakens everyone.

3 June 2025

The youth unite — “Save Grama Raasi”

Under the Kunchaparthi youth association, a long meeting at Ballepalle resolved to protect the land. The “Save Grama Raasi” movement was born — one slogan, one goal.

4 Today

Boards, awareness & a plan

Warning boards mark the land, awareness material spreads the message, and a community master plan charts the path to a prosperous, self-reliant Grama Raasi 2040.

Our Stand ·

We welcome development — once our land is secured

We are not against development. For any development proposal — from the government or a private party — we make one fair, reasonable demand, so the path forward is a win for everyone.

1

Safeguard the land first

The land is legally regularized and protected in the name of the Grama Raasi governing body — fixing the records and the ownership issue.

2

The body & villagers decide

With the land secured, the Grama Raasi governing body and the villagers together decide how it is used — openly and on record.

3

Then land for the project

If a proposal truly benefits the village, the Grama Raasi body itself allocates the land. Development moves ahead — with our rights protected.

Our message: first secure our land — then the Grama Raasi body and the villagers themselves decide and allocate land for any worthy development.

Our conditions for any proposal

The Grama Raasi governing body manages the land for the good of all — whether the proposal comes from government or private parties. Every proposal is judged on these terms.

✕ Not every proposal is good

  • Pollutes air, water or soil
  • Harms community health or environment
  • Takes away local ownership or control
  • Does not benefit local people or create jobs
  • Hands the land to outsiders

✓ Proposals we can consider

  • Non-polluting and eco-friendly
  • Creates local jobs and opportunity
  • Supports agriculture, health, education or infrastructure
  • Respects our culture and community values
  • Keeps control with the village & benefits future generations

Meeting

Youth association convenes online + in person

Elders, youth leaders and members from the village and abroad joined a hybrid meeting to align on protecting the land and shaping the 2040 plan.

Our demand

“Secure the land first — then the village decides on any proposal”

Rather than oppose development, the village makes one fair demand: safeguard Grama Raasi land in the governing body's name, after which the Grama Raasi body and villagers decide on any proposal — government or private.
